Parts of the material in SAMLA have been transcribed, including both handwritten and typewritten texts. Much of it has been transcribed using machine-assisted text recognition and may contain errors. The transcribed texts cannot be used as independent sources, but serve as reading aids alongside the digitized material.
The transcribed texts also form the basis for free-text search.
If an individual item in the collections has been transcribed, you will see an icon resembling a typewritten sheet in the list of search results in the metadata.
When you click on the document, "Transcribed text" will appear in the sidebar under "View."
If you click on the link, you will see the transcribed text.
You can get a parallel view by clicking on the icon on the far right of the menu above the transcription.
