Spilemenner 
hev det vore i Gautestad ætti lengje, 
Klemmit spila 
Og son hans Gunnar like eins. 
Han spelv paa dusingfele. 
Han kunde mange av dei gamle 
slaattane 
Frans Vassend, "Frans Tryssil" 
(godfar til Skippar Frans 
var den god spilemann. 
Gunnulv Gunnarsson byrja 
spela daa han var liten. Han 
arbeidde seg ei fele og bika henne 
i hop og togla Strengjer. 
Han spila baade paa dusingfele 
og hardingfele 
Han var skræddar. Laag mykje i 
Vassend um haustane, Sauma um 
dagane og Spila um Kveldane, 
Kom ofte ikkje heim til Gautestad fyrr 
jolaftens kvelden, 
Spela i løp med Tønnes
