Christmas – or Jul – has been the biggest holiday season for a long time. The celebrations includes both religious life and secular sides to the community. Christmas involves public and private spaces, family as well as neighbourhoods. We decorate, bake, eat, drink, invite and visit, play and dance – for weeks on end.

The documents in SAMLA contains belief and traditions connected to Christmas from the last centuries, and from all of Norway. Much is common across the country, but there are also regional as well as completely local customs.

On this page we have connected all documents with Christmas-related contents.
